When You Least Expect It…Expect It

I read a story the other day that reminded me of Peter's admonition in 1 Peter 5:8.

A doctor and a lawyer tangled in a fender-bender on the highway. The lawyer came over to the doctor's car and said to the MD, "You look pretty well shaken up. Would you like a drink?"

The doctor said he sure would. He accepted the pocket flask the lawyer offered and took not one, but two, deep swallows. He handed the flask back to the lawyer, who put it back in his pocket.

"Aren't you going to have a drink?" the doctor asked. "Not until the police have written out their report," the legal eagle responded.

Life would be so much easier if temptations came with a big sign. But that is not the way Satan works. As Arnold Horshack (Ron Palillo) of Welcome Back Kotter fame was fond of saying, "When you least expect it…expect it.)

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (1 Peter 5:8 KJV)
